A.M. Best Rating

How can we be confident the insurance company currently providing our insurance will continue to exist five years from now?

This is difficult to predict, but knowing and understanding how the AM Best rating system works is a good indicator. Rest assured that Roofer’s Choice Insurance is placing your needs in the best hands. To insure your needs are in good hands we have included a brief description below explaining how AM Best Rates each company and what each symbol means.

A.M. Best Rating

  • Ratings are ranged from A++ to E
  • Ratings are based on an analysis of a company's balance sheet strength, operating performance,
    and business profile.
  • Roofers Choice only places coverage with A+ Rated Carriers
    or better.
  • The majority of companies have a rating of A-.
  • The second symbol included is a roman numeral, which
represents policyholder surplus, conditional or technical
reserve funds, other investments, and voluntary reserves
reported as liabilities in US dollars.
  • The roman numerals range from I (less than
$1,000,000) to XV (greater than $2,000,000,000)
  • We rely on these ratings to insure the best interest
    for our customers.

AM Best Rating

AM Best has two symbols that indicate their rating analysis, the first is represented by an alphabetical range between A++ and E. AM Best completes a quantitative and qualitative analysis of a company’s balance sheet strength, operating performance and business profile. Majority of insurance companies have an alphabetical rating of A-(Excellent) or better by AM Best.

However, a carrier with an alphabetical rating of B or less is considered by AM Best to be Vulnerable Company. The second symbol you will notice with AM Best is a roman numeral. Each company will have a roman numeral assigned which designates the Financial Size Category of that business.

The size ranging from roman numeral I (less than $1,000,ooo) to XV (greater than $2,000,000,000) representing policyholder surplus, conditional or technical reserve funds, other investments, and voluntary reserves reported as liabilities in US dollars. AM Best has worked hard to provide an independent evaluation of an insurance carriers operations and we still rely on their ratings for the best interest of our customers.
